    Abstract

Non-Overturning Crashworthy Post (NOCP) consists of a base key of inverted T shape and the foundation having guide trough to receive the base key. At the end of the trough circular steel tube stubs are embedded. This has been developed and studied for the head-on impact of 0.9ton-80km/h only. But, since most of errant vehicle hits the post with some angle, the NOCP on roadside needs to accommodate angled impacts. To investigate the coverage of NOCP system to angled impacts, extensive simulations were made using LS-DYNA program for 0.9ton-80km/h impacts. It is found that, for 0.9ton-80km/h impact condition, NOCP of size 355.6 mm × 7.2m (D×H) post with cantilever arm can accommodate the angled impacts up to 15°.
